Christie Wins NJ Governor Primary With 55% of Vote, Faces Corzine
By | June 2, 2009 11:34 pm

Former U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie defeated Bogota mayor Steve Lonegan in the Republican primary for New Jersey governor Tuesday night, moving on to face incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine (D).  Christie won with 55 percent of the vote to Lonegan’s 42 percent.

Christie is leading Corzine by 7 percent in a Research 2000/Daily Kos poll released last week.  But 15 percent of voters were still undecided. The really bad news for Corzine is that 55 percent of voters gave the former Goldman Sachs chairman an unfavorable rating.

Democrats are worried about Corzine’s vulnerability, with Vice President Joe Biden showing up for a Corzine fundraiser Tuesday, the night of the primary.

This post was updated to reflect Christie’s percentage of the vote.
