New Jersey Republican Gov.-elect Chris Christie has been subpoenaed to testify for the defense at the Dec. 1 trial of North Bergen Internet radio host and blogger Hal Turner, The Jersey Journal reports.
Turner has made inflammatory statements on his radio show and on blog posts regarding blacks and Jews. Last week The New York Post reported that the Secret Service was investigating Turner for talking about assassinating President Obama.
In June, Turner was charged with threatening federal judges in Chicago, when he posted an entry on his Web site that stated three federal judges there “deserved to be killed” for a ruling they made in a lawsuit. The trial will take place in New York.
Turner is facing unrelated charged in Connecticut related to inciting injury to officials.
The Journal reports that Turner maintains he was trained by the FBI and worked with them for six years to flush out radicals in an effort to prevent terrorism. However, according to Turner’s attorney, Michael Orozco, the stint ended in 2008 when hackers broke into Turner’s radio show Web site server and accessed e-mail exchanges between Turner and the FBI, The Journal reports.
In the affidavit supporting the subpoena, Orozco claims that Christie, a former New Jersey U.S. Attorney, knew that Turner was working with the FBI, gave legal advice to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force regarding Turner and issued a “Blanket Letter of Declination,” refusing to prosecute Turner.
