Poll: AG’s Approval Rating at 41 Percent
By Joe Palazzolo | December 16, 2009 6:50 pm

A new poll pegs Attorney General Eric Holder’s approval rating at 41 percent.

Holder scored well among Democrats (74 percent), placing him in the top half of a group of cabinet secretaries and White House officials, but fared poorly among Republicans and Independents, according to the poll, which was conducted from Dec. 7 to Dec. 11 by the nonpartisan Clarus Research Group.

The poll didn’t ask follow-up questions to probe the respondents’ opinions further. But Holder recently has been under heavy attack by Republicans, including former Vice President Dick Cheney, for his decision to prosecute self-described 9/11 “mastermind” Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in New York federal court.

The most popular Cabinet official in the poll was Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, whose approval rating was measured at 75 percent.

Clarus polled 800 registered voters who follow the news “closely” or “very closely.” Live telephone interviews asked respondents to rate the officials listed below. The margin or error for the nationwide sample is +/-4 percent.
