Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett (R) on Tuesday nominated a career federal prosecutor to be the state’s next attorney general.
Linda Kelly has served in a number of roles in the Pittsburgh U.S. Attorney’s office, including Acting U.S. Attorney from 1998 to 2001 and her current role as senior litigation counsel
Kelly served under Corbett during his time as U.S. Attorney from 1989 to 1993.
If confirmed by a two-thirds majority in the State Senate, Kelly would be the first female attorney general since the office became an elective position in 1980. She would hold the position until 2012. The only other woman to serve as Pennsylvania attorney general was Anne X. Alpern from 1959 to 1961.
