John Kelly, the former Assistant Chief for Health Care Fraud, is headed to Bass, Berry & Sims PLC as a managing partner in the firm’s compliance and government investigations practice.

Kelly is departing from Fulbright & Jaworski LLP where he worked for three years as a partner, focusing on health care, white collar crime and government investigations. At Bass, Berry & Sims, Kelly will work on matters related to health care fraud, False Claims Act, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and insurance fraud.

Before moving to private practice in 2008, Kelly spearheaded health care fraud investigations in the Justice Department, including False Claims Act violations and anti-money laundering, according to a news release. He served worked in the department’s Criminal Division as Assistant Chief for Health Care Fraud in the Fraud Section. He also led the Los Angeles Medicare Fraud Strike Force and worked as Chief of Staff and Deputy Directory of the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys.

“With increasingly significant regulatory and enforcement activity having such direct impact on our clients and the healthcare industry, we saw no better time than now to establish a presence in Washington, DC,” Keith Simmons, managing partner of the firm, said in the news release. “We are most fortunate to have John at the helm.”
