Former Indiana U.S. Attorney Susan Brooks got a nod from friend Chris Christie this week, as he officially endorsed the Republican in her bid for a House seat.
New Jersey Gov. Christie, a former U.S. Attorney, spoke at a fundraising event for Brooks, who is seeking to fill retiring GOP Rep. Dan Burton’s seat.
“I’m completely confident she is the only candidate in this race who will bring Indiana’s conservative values to Washington D.C. ,” Christie said, according to local news reports . “This is someone who has spent her entire career here.”
Christie and Brooks were both appointed as U.S. Attorneys by President George W. Bush. Brooks served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana from 2001 to 2007.
Burton announced his retirement in January, widening the Republican primary race. Brooks faces six other candidates, including former Congressman David McIntosh.
While speaking to reporters, Christie was asked about his own political ascent. But Christie offered nothing new on the question of him joining a Mitt Romney ticket as vice president.
“As I’ve said many times in New Jersey, if the governor wants to have a conversation with me about that, I will certainly talk to him about it,” he said, according to a report in the Indianapolis Star. “But I love being the governor of New Jersey, and I don’t expect that I’ll be on the national ticket.”
