NAACP Approves Resolution Supporting Holder

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People passed an “emergency resolution” this afternoon expressing the organization’s strong support for Attorney General Eric Holder and subsequently labeled him “one of the best Attorney Generals in American history.”

As NAACP members expressed their support and waved green voting cards in the air, the Attorney General was greeted with “raucous applause,” Politico reports.

“The NAACP expresses its strong support for Attorney General Holder and his work at the U.S. Department of Justice … to protect and enhance the voting and civil rights of all Americans,” according to the resolution.

The NAACP asked its members to call congressional lawmakers to “express their outrage at the treatment of the first African-American … Attorney General” and called the contempt citation lobbied against the Attorney General last month a “travesty of justice.”

At one point an audience member shouted “We love you!” to which Holder replied “I love you back!” Politico reports.

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus and other Democrats walked out of the contempt of Congress vote against the Attorney General last month in protest.  Critics of the vote contend Republicans “politicized” the oversight tool and took out their frustration with the Barack Obama administration on the Attorney General.  Supporters of the vote claim Holder withheld subpoenaed documents from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
