In an article headlined, “Are Jenny Durkan’s Party Ties an Ethics Issue?” the Seattle Times today asks whether President Obama’s nominee for U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Washington will have to recuse herself. From what, it’s not clear. Stuff.
This article feels as if it were planted by some enemy or political opponent of Durkan and her patron, Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire (D). Or maybe by someone trying to make the Obama U.S. Attorney appointment process appear as politicized as it was in the latter half of the Bush administration.
I mean - shocking. A U.S. Attorney with ties to politics? Well, it is a politically appointed position. Recusal policies are in place. And gee, I never heard of a U.S. Attorney using the job as a springboard to higher political office. Oh, wait - there’s Chris Christie running as a Republican for governor of New Jersey. Okay, my bad.Â
