Jerry E. Martin (Dartmouth College, Stanford Law School) is nominated to be the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee. He would replace Bush holdover Edward M. Yarbrough, who has led the office since October 2007.
Martin’s vitals:
- Born in Murfreesboro, Tenn., in 1974.
- Attended the University College Galway in Galway, Ireland, during the fall of 1994.
- Has worked at Barrett, Johnston & Parsley in Nashville since November 2003, as an associate from 2003 to 2007 and as a partner since 2007.
- Was an investor in the Creative Restaurant Group, LLC in Nashville from 2002 to 2006.
- Worked as an associate in the litigation department of Bass, Berry & Sims PLC in Nashville from August 2000 to November 2003.
- In 2002, he was finance director of the congressional campaign of Democrat Jim Cooper. Earlier, in 1994, while still in college, he worked on Cooper’s U.S. Senate campaign.
- Was an associate in the litigation department of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs LLP in Nashville from September 1999 to August 2000.
- Worked as a researcher at Cornerstone Research in Menlo Park, Calif., during the spring of 1999.
- Analyzed legislation for former Rep. Robert Clement (D-Tenn.) in Washington, D.C., during the fall of 1998.
- Was a summer associate at Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs LLP in 1998.
- Clerked in the Tennessee attorney general’s office in Nashville during the summer of 1998.
- Clerked for Legal Aid of East Tennessee in Knoxville during the summer of 1997.
- Did administrative work for the Democratic Leadership Council in Washington, D.C., during the summer of 1996.
- Served as an associate editor for Stanford Law Review from 1997 to 1999.
- Has served as lead counsel in one class action jury trial in federal court. Has tried two class action bench trials in federal court in which he played “a significant role.” Has assisted in one class action jury trial in federal court. Has tried four other individual actions in either state or federal court, on two of which he served as lead counsel and the other two in a “supporting, but significant, role.”

On his Office of Government Ethics financial disclosure, Martin reported earning $749,000 from Barrett, Johnston & Parsley from January 2009 to February 2010.
UPDATE: On his Senate Judiciary financial disclosure Martin reported assets valued at $904,100, mostly from his personal residence, and $417,000 in liabilities from a mortgage he has from his real estate, for a net worth of $487,100.
