Colorado’s newest U.S. Attorney John Walsh started at the office last week, prompting one other top prosecutor in the district to step down — his wife.

John Walsh and Lisa Christian (Colorado Lawyer's Committee)

Colorado Law Week reported that Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa Christian, the former head of the civil division at the U.S. Attorney’s office and a 15-year veteran, will be detailed to another federal agency while her husband heads the Denver-based U.S. Attorney’s office.

Walsh, a former shareholder at Hill & Robbins PC since 1999, previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Central District of California from 1987 to 1995.

Daniel Hurley (Federal Bar Association)

Colorado is not the only U.S. Attorney’s office with a husband-wife duo. Eastern District of Michigan U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade and her husband, Daniel Hurley, also both work for the Detroit-based U.S. Attorney’s office. Before her nomination to lead the office, McQuade served as an assistant U.S. Attorney for 11 years and was deputy chief of the office’s national security unit since 2005. Hurley, who joined the U.S. Attorney’s office in 1992, still works for the appeals division in the office, but now reports to a supervisor outside Detroit, according to the Detroit News.
