EDNY Chief Loretta Lynch Tapped to Chair Attorney General Advisory Committee

Eastern District of New York U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch has been tapped to serve as chairwoman of Attorney General Eric Holder’s Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys this year, according to a Justice Department news release. 
The committee was created in 1973 and gives the U.S. Attorneys a chance to advice the Attorney General on policy and management issues. Spots on the committee are highly coveted.
Lynch , the EDNY chief, takes the chair over from New Jersey U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman. Additionally, Holder appointed Northern District of Georgia U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates to serve as the vice chair in 2013.
“I’m confident that U.S. Attorneys Lynch and Yates have the expertise and dedication to lead this critical group in a challenging time, as we work to fulfill the department’s commitment to protecting the American people,” Holder said in a statement.
Lynch previously served  as the Brooklyn U.S. Attorney from 1999 to 2001, after nine years as an assistant U.S. attorney in the office. She later worked as a partner at the firm then known as Hogan & Hartson LLP. She returned as the Brooklyn U.S. Attorney after being confirmed  by the Senate in April 2010.
Lynch has served on the committee since 2010, working as the vice chair since 2011 and previously as the chair for the subcommittee on office, management and budget. Yates was appointed to the committee in 2010 as well, and has served on a subcommittee focused on civil rights, white collar fraud and criminal practice and law enforcement coordination, according the the department’s release.
In the statement, Holder thank Fishman’s “invaluable” work as the chair of the committee during the past two years.
